Investment areas include street lighting, traffic signal and pedestrian crossings, bridges, open spaces, signage, underpasses, drainage and flood prone areas.

The investment will complement existing capital funding already in place and will be delivered over the next three years.

Specific projects and programmes are being developed and prioritised in line with their known condition and to fit alongside relevant Asset Management Plan priorities.

Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “By focusing this funding on these specific areas, it means we can free up other money in the budget to tackle ongoing issues, such as carriageway resurfacing.

“The investment will strengthen local infrastructure, improve safety and create more pleasant and resilient environments.”

The investment is part of an almost £40 million funding boost after political groups came together to agree the Budget for People and Place in South Lanarkshire for 2026-27.
